Gibraltar Ibrahim-al-Ibrahim Mosque

A recent addition to the area in 1997, the Mosque is an impressive building which was a gift from King Fahad Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia.

Also known as the Mosque of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques was officially inaugurated on 8th August 1997. The building was a gift from King Fahad Al-Saud of Saudi Arabia and took two years to build at a cost of around five million pounds.

On the flat ground at the side of the Mosque is a large underground cistern dating back to Moorish times. Water enters the cistern through the porous limestone rocks after having drained through a large geological fault in the cliff face. Known as The Nuns Well, the origin of the name is not known. One version is that the cistern was used by the nuns from the Shrine of Our Lady of Europa, and in an old map it is described as “A bathing place for ye Nuns ot Nostra Senora D: Europa.”
