Gibraltar Top Cable Car Station

The top cable car station is at the mid point of the north/south ridge line of Gibraltar. The views are spectacular from the various terraces around the building. From here visitors can walk southwards to visit attractions such as St. Michael’s Cave or northwards to attractions such as The Great Siege Tunnels. Please read the Upper Rock Tips opposite for ticket prices and other information. The Signal Hill military station is in ruins and can be explored upon leaving the cable car station, it is not an official tourist site.

Each year the Cable Car carries thousands of visitors to the top of the Rock. This panorama shows the spectacular views visitors can enjoy, stretching south towards Africa where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea and to the west over the town area across the Bay of Gibraltar and out towards Spain (north).

Upon leaving the cable car make sure you are not holding any food or sweets or have any bags open as apes will approach you with extreme vigour if they think an open bag contains food or confectionery. Look, enjoy, but DO NOT FEED. Cameras, spectacles and bottles of water are not what they are after.

The present Cable Car was originally constructed in April 1966 by Von Roll of Switzerland, and was extensively refurbished by the manufacturers in 1986. Within the Top Station complex there is a Self Service Restaurant.
